Development (DIIRD)
The Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional
Development is the business investment arm of the Victorian
State Government and is responsible for attracting and facilitating
foreign investment, encouraging business migration and promoting
exports. The Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional
Development acts in partnership with business, other levels of
government and the community to maximise Victoria's capacity for
economic and social growth.
The Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional
Development has a pivotal role in the economic and business
development of Victoria. In so doing, the Department aims to:

North
- Increase employment opportunities in Melbourne's North

competitive position in the global economy

- Provide a whole of government focus to economic
development
The Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional
Development and the Victorian Government have a range of
business and investment attraction programs in place to support and
work with business. These include the Growing Tomorrow's Business
Industries Today program, the most comprehensive ICT program of any
Victorian Government, The Agenda for New Manufacturing Initative
and the Science, Technology and Innovation Program.
One of the Department's services is to help build a case for
potential investment projects, including tailored cost comparisons
for Victoria and other locations. It can also put together special
investment assistance packages to attract new businesses and help
expand existing businesses and is involved in fast-tracking
discussions regarding approvals on major projects.

to develop and grow, with a special focus on high-tech

Enterprise Improvement
Programs
The Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional
Development's services for business include a range of programs
to help Victorian companies to become internationally competitive
and export ready through a process of continuous improvement. These
include services based on business assessment, strategic planning
and continuous improvement and programs to assist environmental
management, technology diffusion and commercialisation.
The process usually begins with the provision of information and
advisory services, at the direct request of potential clients.
Export Assistance
If a company is committed to export, seeking new markets or
expanding existing overseas markets, the business assistance
division of The Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional
Development can help through its network of Victorian and
overseas offices.
Export Market Planning - this program assists companies
to examine their export capabilities and prospects, and uses an
accredited consultant to develop a practical export market plan
that integrates export activity into the company's business
plan.
Export Network Program - encourages small to medium-sized
companies to cooperate in strategic areas of business to exploit
opportunities beyond the reach of individual firms. The program is
particularly relevant to SMEs considering expansion into overseas
markets.
Trade Missions, Inbound and External - sector-based
briefings and market advice are provided to help companies succeed
internationally. The Department of Innovation, Industry and
Regional Development can also put your company on the itinerary
of visiting trade delegations and overseas companies looking to
source Victorian products and expertise.
Export Managers' Forum - a forum initiated by the
Department meets regularly to provide opportunities for export
managers to meet and discuss issues of significance for achieving

Project Facilitation
The major project facilitation group of The Department of
Innovation, Industry and Regional Development can assist with major
investment projects anywhere in Victoria by co-ordinating all
government and public utility negotiations within an agreed time
